In the machining process of CNC lathes, the tool is a major component system. Its main task is to precisely cut off the excess parts of the workpiece to obtain the corresponding part style.

In the machining process of CNC lathes, the tool is a major component system. Its main task is to precisely cut off the excess parts of the workpiece to obtain the corresponding part style. There are two main indicators in the operation process of the entire tool system: one is the precision indicator for part processing, and the other is the processing efficiency indicator. How to improve these two indicators is an important reference for evuating the quality of a device. Today, we, Haishu Machinery, a CNC lathe manufacturer, will explain three common methods for optimizing the tool system of CNC lathes.
1. Tool selection and quality:
       Select high-quality cutting tools: Choose cutting tools from reputable brands to ensure that the geometric accuracy (edge sharpness, shape accuracy) and dynamic balance performance (especially during high-speed cutting) of the tools meet the requirements.
       Reasonable selection: Select the appropriate tool type (turning tool, boring tool, drill, etc.), material (carbide, ceramic, CBN, PCD, etc.), and geometric angles (rake angle, clearance angle, major cutting edge angle, nose radius, etc.) based on the workpiece material, machining requirements (rough/finish machining), and machine tool power and rigidity.
2. Tool clamping and measurement:
       Precision tool setting: Use a high-precision tool setter (either built-in or external) to accurately measure the length and radius (tip radius) of the tool, and input the data accurately into the CNC system. The tool setting error will be directly reflected on the workpiece.
       Tool handle and clamping: Use high-precision and rigid tool handles (such as hydraulic tool handles, thermal expansion tool handles, and high-precision spring clamps). Ensure that the tool is firmly clamped in the tool handle with minimal runout (especially for finishing tools).
       Control tool overhang: On the premise of meeting machining requirements, minimize the overhang length of the tool, enhance rigidity, reduce vibration, and prevent tool breakage.
3. Tool wear monitoring and replacement:
       Establish tool life management, regularly inspect tool wear (such as wear on the tool's rear face and chipping of the tool tip), and promptly replace worn tools. Worn tools can directly affect dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
